Cox Plate favourite Whobegotyou is on track for record equalling third Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes victory.

The six-year-old has won the Group Two 1600m feature at Moonee Valley for the past two years and the weight-for-age star is a great chance to emulate Shorengro who won the race in consecutive years from 1968-70.

Whobegotyou was an impressive winner of the Group Two Lawrence Stakes (1400m) when he resumed at Caulfield on August 13 and was an eye-catching third in an 1100m jump-out at Werribee on Friday with race jockey Damien Oliver aboard.

“The jump out was just what he needed and he finished it off very strongly under a hold,” trainer Mark Kavanagh said.
“He is in terrific order.

“I had the option of running him last Saturday (in the Memsie) but I didn’t want to and took the option of giving him the jump-out just to click him up.

“It was just enough to give him some competitive work which was more than he would have done on the track.

“It has cleaned him up nicely.”
The Dato Tan Chin Nam has been a plank in Whobegotyou’s past two spring campaigns geared towards the Cox Plate which is again his target in October.

Last spring he won the Dato Tan Chin Nam second-up while he won it third up-in a year earlier.

He was third in last year’s Cox Plate to So You Think and sixth to the former Bart Cummings-trained champion in 2009.

Whobegotyou’s rivals on Saturday will include last year’s Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva and Peter Moody-trained stablemate King’s Rose, a stunning winner of the Memsie Stakes (1400m).

A Group One winner in New Zealand, King’s Rose has won seven of her 13 starts and looms as the biggest threat to Whobegotyou.
